Phoebe Kavanagh (née Abrahams)

 Potential OT

Since graduating with a First Class Honors degree in Occupational Therapy in 2010, I have worked exclusively in special and mainstream schools, specialising as an Education OT. Working in schools enables me to combine two of my passions – education and therapy. I strive to bridge the gap between the two domains, fostering each pupil’s individual learning potential.

“Free the child’s potential, and you will transform him into the world.”

Maria Montessori

I have vast experience of the education system, ranging from delivering direct therapy to school aged children (from nursery to Sixth Form, including home-schooled children); writing and delivering bespoke training packages to school staff; performing independent audits for service development in a consultancy capacity; and facilitating at tribunals.

As a front line practitioner with both NHS and private experience I have an in depth and practical understanding of the sorts of barriers that can occur when embedding an OT programme in schools. I work alongside professionals and families to overcome these challenges in order to develop the pupil’s access to the curriculum using a function-based approach.

I am driven to support children in education who are not meeting their potential – leaving no stone unturned in finding possible reasons behind their difficulties.

In order to achieve this I utilize a neurodevelopmental approach.

I have particular interest in working with pupils whose barriers originate from coordination, visual perception, sensory processing, specific learning difficulties, and/or neuroimmaturity as a result of retained primitive reflexes.

If you would like to discuss your child’s needs please do not hesitate to contact me.
